The Special Olympics World Games Berlin 2023 - we accompanied two of our volunteers

From 17 to 25 June 2023, Berlin hosted the Special Olympics World Games 2023 - an international sports festival that brings the world together and promotes the message of inclusion and participation for people with intellectual and multiple disabilities. As a proud member of a media alliance, we actively supported this important event and set an example for inclusion and diversity.

The Special Olympics World Games is the world's largest inclusive sports event and was held in Germany for the first time this year. More than 7,000 athletes with intellectual and multiple disabilities from 190 nations competed in 26 sports. The colourful festival of sport stands for social participation and offers people with disabilities the opportunity to gain more recognition and self-confidence through sport.

Our volunteers on site

Our colleagues from P7S1-cosmos were also live on site. As participants in the volunteer programme, they supported the event at the Special Olympics Germany (SOD) information stand, in the backstage area during stage performances, in looking after groups and athletes, in organisational activities and much more.

Inclusion in the spotlight: Special Olympics at P7S1

In order to raise the profile of Special Olympics 2023, a number of partners came together to form a media alliance, which we also joined. With our wide reach across TV channels and digital platforms, we were keen to raise awareness of this important issue. We covered the Special Olympics 2023 daily on five channels, but unlike traditional sporting events, the focus was not just on the competitions, but also on the stories of the athletes and coaches. We didn't just want to report, we wanted to create special moments and show that inclusion means more. We are also committed to inclusion as part of our #OneTomorrow initiative, which brings together all of P7S1's sustainability activities. We believe that shared participation is only possible if we all live and support it. That is why, under the umbrella of #OneTomorrow, we have launched the #ZusammenUnschlagbar campaign on our channels.

For us, the Special Olympics World Games 2023 in Berlin was a unique sporting event that brought the world closer together and highlighted the importance of inclusion and participation. As a partner of the Media Alliance and with our #OneTomorrow sustainability initiative, we are proud to be part of this inspiring initiative. We firmly believe that inclusion is fun and that together we are unbeatable!
